Playing at the gulf

A few months ago, I cleaned my palette off on to a canvas. I am not one to waste paint, and there was just too much to throw away! So, I coated the canvas with the leftovers and waited to see what would inspire me to complete it. This little girl was totally perfect. I added the shoreline with wave action to the all blue canvas. Some, sand, some waves, a little girl playing in the water. 

Just makes me want to go to the beach!

I also worked on this Lichtenstein inspired piece. I completed it today with my Atelier class at the Eastern Shore Art Center. The parents are having almost as much fun as the kids when they see their wonderful works of art completed during the class.

Wet and Wild!

Wet and Wild!

This was the underpainting I posted the other day with the final finish. 

This process is so easy  and the kids just love it!

140 lb watercolor paper with an abstract painting. Use reasonably thick paint, don't let them dilute it with water.  Let dry at least overnight. 

This is the underpainting. After the painting is dry, You take dishwasher gel and dribble, squirt, and plop away. (We used ketchup and mustard bottles) After applying gel, immediately paint it with black spray paint. Wait just long enough for it to dry to touch, then comes the wet and wild!

You spray off the dishwasher gel to reveal the underpainting!

The kids love using the hose, but you must be careful they don't spray too hard! I found it easier to do the hose myself, getting them to move the paintings afterward to dry.

Playing with the kiddos this week!

While this piece is not sale material, it was loads of fun!

Sometimes you've just got to go out of your comfort zone, and children really make me do this in spades. I love coming up with creative ways for the "littles" to have fun 

(although I have had adults join in at times!) I have learned so much about construction  and materials in my recycled class, there is virtually nothing I cannot figure out! 

I have entered the KID ZONE!

This week finds me at the Eastern Shore Art Center in downtown Fairhope. 

My class is chock full of 8-12 year olds in the Artelier class. This age is so much fun to teach and so eager to create! I am looking forward to a fun filled, hectic week!

I am also in the process of getting my better half to build a small amount of sets for our church's Summer Surge program. (Thanks love of my life! Chris Chavez) I am off to paint now!

Art pARTy to You and art camp with the wee ones!

Art pARTy to You is a business my girlfriend, Linda Scoot and I started recently. We are having a lot of fun and  learning a great deal about all kinds of things while running a business! Most of all, making sure our clients are happy with their completed piece and wanting to come back for more! Our first Manci Monday was a rousing success, with over 20 people in attendance.
Backlit pier, Dachshund, and Pretty Peacock are just 3 of the paintings offered at our facebook page. Coming to a website near you soon!

Surely you jest! and There's an Alligator! are pieces that were completed with the 4-6 year olds at the Daphne Art Center this past week. Each piece of art was inspired by a book we read first, We made a mobile, a jester, a mouse sculpture, an alligator painting, and a spider sculpture. A fun time was had by all 

(at least I think they had fun!) The Daphne Art Center is also on Facebook for additional photos. We dabbled in glitter, watercolor, Acrylic, newspaper, and recycled art all in this Atelier class.

This catches me up on the current painting a day. I am still having some issues with the internet, but things have calmed down for now. Let the REAL painting begin!
