Dachshunds are our life!

This is a gift for my sons' girlfriend.

She wanted one of the smaller rounds that I have left in my studio.

Hobby Lobby no longer offers these rounds, so my series with them is having to end.

I have enough left to do this for her birthday.

I'm not sure if it is finished, but I may revisit it at a later date.

He is a cream-colored dachshund, so the sepia may not be the best choice.

We also unpacked, uncovered, and separated the old Flourish sides from my equipment.

I now have 2-10ft walls in the old style, along with a 5ft wall. 

This makes a complete tent set up, great for a beginning artist doing shows.

There are also 2-10 ft walls in the newer style along with a 7ft wall.

This set includes the bottom Sta-bars with new clamps to attach them to the legs.

I'm also including the framework we built for the 7ft wall. 

I'm kind of sad to see them go, because they have been with me since 2007.

The older walls were from another artist that gave me an incredible price on them.

The newer ones came from another artist in Mississippi.

Knowing what they cost now, whew!

Dachshund a la Russo

Is it possible to be more in love with a breed of dog? I think not! While painting with the kids today at Atelier class, I painted another Russo inspired dachshund. They painted a Russo inspired Rat, Cat, Golden, and rabbit. This one looks a lot like our Tut!

Tut is named after an artist here in Alabama. Any way you look at it, they are an awesome, stubborn, smart, retaliatory, mischievous breed!

Day 79 of the 100 days~100 paintings

Dizzy Dachshund!

If you really know our house, you know we have 5 dachshunds that call the Raccoon Retreat Studio home. We initially had 3 of our own, then when our daughter moved to India she tearfully left her two with us. We have Frida age 12 , Tut age 10, Trixie age 8, and Bandit and Divya age 4. Bandit and Divya are brother and sister and Trixie is their momma. Two are Black and Tan, Two are double dapple, and we have a red head. The dogs rule the house the majority of the time, and we most likely would not have it any other way! I am basically an automatic door opener for them when I am trying to work in the studio. One or more of them will come running into the studio and then run out, hoping I'll follow. Meal time is an adventure. Walking together is a mad dash until they settle, then I hope no one stops us for a photo. Car riding is also a must every day! (Chris started the car rides when I went to convention one year.)

Enough about us, on to the painting! This is a demonstration piece for the kiddos that I teach. I love this fun style and teach it frequently to kids because they love  the wild patterning. It is an adventure drawing out several dogs, cats, fish, horses, birds, and even a pig! I just smile when I see this expectant little creature waiting for the next grand event at our house, don't you?

Art pARTy to You and art camp with the wee ones!

Art pARTy to You is a business my girlfriend, Linda Scoot and I started recently. We are having a lot of fun and  learning a great deal about all kinds of things while running a business! Most of all, making sure our clients are happy with their completed piece and wanting to come back for more! Our first Manci Monday was a rousing success, with over 20 people in attendance.

Surely you jest! and There's an Alligator! are pieces that were completed with the 4-6 year olds at the Daphne Art Center this past week. Each piece of art was inspired by a book we read first, We made a mobile, a jester, a mouse sculpture, an alligator painting, and a spider sculpture. A fun time was had by all 

(at least I think they had fun!) The Daphne Art Center is also on Facebook for additional photos. We dabbled in glitter, watercolor, Acrylic, newspaper, and recycled art all in this Atelier class.

This catches me up on the current painting a day. I am still having some issues with the internet, but things have calmed down for now. Let the REAL painting begin!  

Elementary my Dear!

       The age group of 8-11 year olds got to paint in two classes as well Watercolor and Acrylics that pop! were on the menu last week. The kids had a lot of fun and I am sure that the  Pop Dachshunds will end up at Art Party to you in some form or another!
Initial white crayon on paper with watercolor, Sunflowers watercolor on paper 8 x 10, Pop Dachshunds 18 x 24 acrylic on canvas, watercolor crab and shrimp 12 x 16 each. These pieces are days 24 through 28 of the 100 Days~100 Paintings. I will post more later on these kids and their wonderful art work created while at Art Camps on the Gulf Coast!

Trixie Portrait

Trixie is our Double Dapple Dachshund and this portrait is of her as a puppy. She was following around the other dachshunds we have as they ran down the stairs of the gazebo. She still was a little frightened to attempt this trick and became frustrated. After several attempts to muster up her courage, she let out a big sigh and plopped down on the deck while I snapped the picture. I painted this picture while at the festival (are you seeing a trend here?) Several people asked how much for a portrait and I handed out lots of cards. If the portraits pan out, maybe the shrimp festival won't be a complete disappointment.
I am creating pet portraits for the upcoming show at Cathedral Square Gallery in November. I have done several pet portraits,but they are always for clients and I never get a good picture. Consequently, I am painting lots of animals for our show. My focus may be primarily on Dachshunds as they are what I own and are familiar with. I have access to a JR Terrier as well as chihuahuas. All are fun to paint!
