I was delighted to deliver these beauties this past week! I was contacted in January about these pieces and gave the decorators prices to go in the space. I had given up on them ever coming to fruition when I received a call out of the blue this past July while teaching at the museum. After some back and forth, the designers and clients wanted a total of 5 pieces, 4 prints and 1 original. I quoted pricing based on my previous experience of aquiring prints. Much to my surprise, after calculating the cost of prints versus originals, it became clear to me that a painting a day was the way to go! I am so glad I started on this journey of a painting a day which allows me the freedom to create and keep pricing affordable. The channel markers are for the residents wing and near the elevators. I am looking forward to the opening with the other artists in this exciting project! That being said, these all have a new home in the new wing of the USAWomens and Childrens hospital in Mobile, Alabama.

Channel Marker 7

Channel marker 7 is located near the boat dock on the way to Coya Costa, Florida. This guy was chillin out waiting for the day to begin. Our boat ride was early and he was drying out after an early fishing expedition. I love to paint pelicans andI painted this one while on a cruise out of Mobile, Alabama. People are always amazed that I paint while on vacation or at shows. I cannot sit still and do nothing, so I paint! I am surrounded by people reading books and I find it very relaxing. It also gives me the opportunity to talk with people about my websites and blog. I also hand out cards to anyone who asks. I really enjoy talking with the public while I am out and about, so if you happen to find me painting don't hesitate to have a chat!

Pelican Penthouse

I took this photo while we were out sailing one day in Mobile Bay. Our bay was once known as the Bay of the Holy Spirit. I never fail to feel peaceful when out on the water with the wind, seagulls, and the thrumming engines of an exiting or returning tanker and pilot boat the only sounds you hear.
The two larger buildings are the RSA Tower and The Riverview Hotel. I added drifting fog to push them back. I also enlarged the Channel marker and the birds to give them more presence.
The pelicans are just hanging out, ready for the day to end. These comical birds are always fun to watch and I have heard many a pelican story while in my booth at the outdoor shows. This piece is oil on canvas 18 x 32.
