Sea Anemones and clowns, what could be more fun?
Today is Republic day in India. The day they celebrate their great diversity, history, and military. Our president was invited to be the guest of honor but declined. Instead they had the president of South Africa received with all the ceremony. the ceremonies began with the laying of the wreath by the Prime Minister to honor the fallen military. This was done at the start of the parade route and after the wreath was laid, there was 2 minutes of silence. The parade goes from India Gate to the Red Fort and there were large crowds everywhere the eye could see. I also got to watch part of the parade in tv . Lots of military demonstrations with the army, navy, and air force all represented. some of the most beautiful uniforms imaginable as well. Lots of pomp and circumstance from each unit, trying to outreach the others in the parade. It is also easy to still see the British influence here.
Each state also had a float and some were very elaborate. This year's theme was Ghandi and several floats had a lot of the history represented by this great man. Very well attended and loved by all.
While the parade was still going on, we drove to one of the hotels for a buffet. Good food, good company, good service. I had butter chicken, biryani, spinach lasagna and to I many
other things to mention! I tasted several things that were extremely sweet from the desserts as well. Some of them were just too much for my palette to handle.
All in all, a delightful day!
