For the love of trees

"For the love of trees"

This watercolor is the simple sketch for a commissioned piece.
She loves the view from the front of her home that faces one lake and is backed by another.
It will be on two custom canvases that are made to fit above the
cabinetry in the kitchen for my clients home.
One canvas measures 43.5 x 21 the other 55 x 21 making for a total length of 98.5 inches.
The design calls for the largest tree close to the mid way point to be the bridge between the two canvases. There is also a bit of lake on the right side not visible in the photo. She also wants it done in sepia color on the white background.
I am so excited to begin work on this beautiful addition to her home!

Clownfish Trio

Clownfish I

More cigar box beauties on the way!
This one measures about 5 x 6 and has a slide top. I really enjoy quick paintings on these boxes. They challenge me to make quick decisions and stop "dithering" around in the paint!

Clownfish II

Again so fun to paint! This one has a slide top and measures about 5 x 5.

Clownfish III

This one is on a slide top box as well. It measure about 5 x 5.

Silent Sentinel

This turtle is another of the sepia series that is very popular with collectors. The paintings are all neutral in tone, on white backgrounds. Some of them are framed, but the majority are not giving you freedom to decorate as you please. Most people that come into my booths at the various festivals that I participate in don't want the piece framed. It either does not match their decor, their couch, or the size is all wrong. So I now choose to paint on primarily deep edge canvases. This way, there is nothing between you and the art. It also makes my life as an artist much easier and the art more affordable.

There may be some changes coming soon to the blog as well. I am evolving as an artist and learning from a group I have joined. My head is positively swimming with the possibilities that could come from these changes in presentation. The presentation change will not be very noticeable, but hopefully I can become easier to find on the Internet. Those of you that have followed me for a few years, know that I have worked diligently to have a better presense on the web. These "changes" are going to be painless for you my followers, (and may actually make it easier to locate a particular piece of art!). However, I may have a permanent headache before it is all over!

Nautilus my Nautilus

Todays entry is a request by a woamn at the Jubliee show last weekend. Her college days spent in a "new" house for the sorority group she was in has a Nautilus as it's symbol. It is their tenth anniversary and the alumni are redecorating the house for the girls living there now. She asked if I could paint one larger for the common area when she saw the sepia nautilus that was only 12 inches. She also wanted it in color. I told her I would have it completed by Grand Festival in Fairhope October 8th and 9th.
This painting completes day 85 of the 100 days and I am still loving every minute of the process!

Bubble Shell Front

Even more interesting to paint is the front of the Bubble shell. It has a lot more visual interest because of the opening where the animal used to reside. I really enjoy minature paintings and I hope it shows. This little guy is a part of a series of small paintings that are affordable and fun to hang in tight spaces such as between doorways. This painting is number 60 in the 100 days~100 paintings.

Ready for the Salad~Fruit, that is!

This painting was one I started while teaching a class at the Mobile Museum of Art in Oils. I am increasingly aware of the harm we are doing our environment so I have been trying to use what I have instead of purchasing more! I decided to finish it and put into the 100 Days~100 Paintings exhibit and blog. The new computer and I are friends now and I cruise along with a lot more ease than I used to be able to do! The new PC is also able to download from my flash in the front of the computer! I have not had a USB port that worked in a long, long time!
